 In our country, the large quantity and the high quality of the cultural ecclesiastic heritage represent a determining and distinctive patrimony because of the close links which connect the history, the tradition and the culture of our regions.
Caltagirone, together with the towns of the cultural area in Val di Noto, has been recently stated cultural patrimony by UNESCO thanks to its splendid patterns of Baroque art which is possible to admire: parish churches, rectorates, convents and holy places constitute a really unique patrimony, but especially they are a fundamental instrument by means of which for centuries the Church and the community of believers have expressed the inner spirituality, the veneration for the Saints, the praise and glory of God.
Silver reliquaries, inlaid marble altars, canvas, wooden statues aren’t only splendid artistic masterpieces but rather the sign of the popular devoutness and the tangible expression of a faith that has been inspiring the artists and the craftsmen living in a territory.
WAYS OF FAITH is the pastoral and cultural proposal through which you may take part in the discharge of your own task of announcing Gospel; at the same time, it is a courageous attempt of trying new ways in order to make easier the fruition of such a rich patrimony through the reopening of some churches and their return to the community. WAYS OF FAITH can be the occasion for a walk through the downtown roads of Caltagirone, and we also hope the same happens in the other tows of the diocese, but above all it will make us rediscover our culture, identity and faith.
